    Hi unsure,

    Welcome to Windows BBS :D

Please confirm the spelling of the three missing files (ie the first one you mentioned is not hiem.system but possibly himem.sys). Accuracy of your posts is important.

Hi unsure, I just had a look in Google and this might help until someone more experienced comes along : Article ID: 129605 - Last Review: October 31, 2007 - Revision: 2.8
HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files
Go to Microsoft updates and search for above. You may have to provide more definitive info on your OS. Cheers Neil.

If you do not have the Win98 CD, and you can get into Safe Mode, you need to search your harddrive for what is called CAB files. Files with the extension CAB at the end of the name.
One folder they could be located in is at C:\Windows\Options\Cabs.
If they are there, go to the Start Button, and select Run, type in "SFC" and press Enter. You'll then be able to put your missing files back with the System File Checker utility.
Note: a misspelled filename will give no results. Make sure that the System File Checker (SFC.Exe) is actually looking in the folder where you located the CAB files.
