    Outlook express would not load/open
    Error message with Outlook Express --
    MSOE.DLL COULD NOT BE LOADED
    This DLL was found in the OE folder and Windows/system.
    It is not user friendly.
    Downloaded EI from Microsoft.
    During the reinstall of EI and OE a sysem file checker type window opened and an this error message displayed:
    THE FILE SHOWDESKTOP.SCF ON (UNKNOWN) IS NEEDED.
    It looked like it wanted to be restored from C:\windows\system -- but no file by that name is on my system ... so I clicked "skip file "
    What is showdesktop.scf where can I find it and how can I get it back on my computer. ... Google and Microsoft knowledge Base is of no help ... I've spent 6 hours looking. HELP appreciated.

    ok ... but....

    Thanks for the KB article I saved it for the future. IE/OE problem was corrected by downloading and upgrading IE5.5 to 6.0.
    Any comments about that crazy...

    david201,

    Files with extension scf (such as Show Desktop) are shortcut type files that issue commands via Internet Explorer. As they are considered Shortcuts they never show their extension though their description is Windows Explorer Command.

    If you accidentally delete the Show Desktop shortcut from the taskbar's Quick Launch toolbar, here's how to restore it:
    Copy the following lines into a new Text Document, rename it and copy to either the original location, the desktop, or the Start Menu (or anywhere).

    ShowDesktop
    ShowDesktop.scf hides all open windows so items on the desktop can be seen or used. It is normally located in the Quick Launch toolbar. Items on the Quick Launch toolbar are stored at C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Save the file as ShowDesktop.SCF. This will put the shortcut back on your Quick Launch toolbar.
