Resolved Missing DVD Codec

    I have a netbook running Win 7 Starter and Media Player 12. I bought an external optical drive to watch DVDs. However, I am unable to do so because a box opens in the Media Player saying "missing DVD codec" Microsoft says to upgrade to full Win7 or buy and install another media player. Are there any other simpler less expensive options? Thanks for your help.
