    My CD rom drive suddenly stopped recognizing any discs. My windows media player shows the tracks and titles of CD's but will not play them. I have been getting and uninstalling N Case files. Could this have an effect of my CD drive and what can I do to resolve this problem?

    I don't know for sure but I doubt N-case is the cause of your current media problem but unstead of dealing with n-case tracking folders and if you don't use or need the service why not get rid of it? See and read the following link and sublinks and make your own choice:

    http://www.dward63.fsnet.co.uk/What_is_n-CASE_and_how_to_get_rid_of_it.htm

    ========
    As for the media problem....any errors when you click on individual songs (for play)?

    Try turning off some of Media Player Bells and Whistles that cause it to try and go on-line prior to playing Cd's?

    Is this a burned cd or store bought?

    What method have you used to try and open and play these?
    Examples:
    *Put the cd in and allow autoplay
    *Put the cd in dblclk on cdrom drive and click on a song
    *Open media player and use toolbar menu to dirrect an open

    Does cd recognize and play other CD's?
    ...Data CD's ???

    =======
    Does device manager indicate there is any problem with the drive or harddisk controller?

    Have you rebooted and tried again? I mention this because sometimes I run into a glitch using the cd burner and the regular cd (reader) alternately and a bad read on a cd may cause me to temporarily lose the function of one or the other. A reboot fixes the problem.
