A while back, I installed a MIcrosoft works cd on my computer but recently I have lost it and I don't have the code or anything for it. It is still installed on my computer but I want it off because I bought a newer version of MW. is there any way I can unstall the older version without the CD?

    thanks,
    Juan

Will the new version install over the old? I recently upgraded my Office 97 to Office 2003. Had I wanted to take out Office 97, I'd would have had to had the CD. But Office 2003 upgraded the old and installed over the top. Maybe MW will do the same.

Don't have Works installed on my system any longer as I recently purchased MS Office. Can't remember if I needed the CD or not to uninstall, but at any rate it won't hurt to try, the worst that will happen is that when you try to uninstall it it will ask for the installation CD.

If you locate the CD but can't find the PID Number you can locate it by following these steps:

    1. Start Works.

    2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Works.

    3. Write down the Product ID number. Make sure you differentiate between the number zero ( "0 ") and the capital letter "O ".

    4. Click OK, and then quit Microsoft Works.

    Hope this Helps.

Does it not show up in Add/Remove Programs?

I am fairly sure that I installed MSW 2004 over the top of whatever version I was running previously - v6 I think.

Generally speaking an install program will detect earlier versions and either uninstall them or indicate that they should be uninstalled first if need be, or simply install to another directory.

You do need the cd, as the Add/Remove requests it for an uninstall. Microsoft also recommends uninstalling previous versions of Works before installing the new one. However, the thing works fine after just running the new install. It installs the program and updates the shortcuts, links, reg entries, etc. You just have a few unused older files hanging around. They never caused me any problems when I used to update Works without uninstalling (before I learned the "recommended" way.)
