    Good Afternoon,
I have a student with a Sony laptop loaded with WinXP Home and Office 2003. Somehow, while trying to cut and paste from a Yahoo web page, he managed to totally secure all the Word documents in his 'My Documents' folder. All the docs can be opened in Word, but you can make absolutely no changes to any of them. Nor is there an option to even open a new document. Nor is it even possible to get to the 'Options' menu with in the 'Tools' menu to check and/or change any security settings - nearly all menu items are greyed out.
If anyone has any good ideas what to do to resolve this issue - including maybe re-installing Word, please let me know. Could this possibly be an OS issue somewhere in the broad scheme of things?

It's acting like a trial version of Office or Word that has expired. Once expired, Word will act as a viewer only. You can open documents but cannot edit them nor open a new document.

Check to see if it's an expired trial version. If so, the only option is to purchase a copy of Word. Student discounts are hefty and worth looking into if purchasing is the only option open.

Thanks Everyone. I told the student yesterday that he should see about getting a 'good' copy of Word to install. I didn't even think about the one on the laptop being a 'demo' copy. I know we have pretty good student discounts, so it should not be a major issue for him.
    Thanks again! :)
