    Hi all,
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit edition with Microsoft Office XP installed. The problem that I have been having is after I open any microsoft office program (doesn't matter which one) and I want to change the office assisstant, I go to change which character that I want for the office assisstant and I get an error message that says there is not enough memory to compete this operation. :( This has me baffled because in my sidebar I have a gadget that shows how much CPU and RAM is being used. I have about 15% of my CPU being used and about 45% of my RAM being used. I have 1 Gigabyte of RAM and I have never used more than 50% of it. So I am very confused as to why I am getting that error message whenever I try to change the character for the office assisstant. Everything else works great but this is the only issue that I am having with Microsoft Office. BTW I don't have the Microsoft Office XP CD so I can't do a repair of office. When I had Windows XP I didn't get this error message. After I upgraded to Windows Vista this message started appearing. If there is anything more that I can do to provide more information about this issue, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any help someone could provide. Thanks in advance. :)

Have you installed all the service packs for Office?
    Does rebooting help?

Hi Steve thanks for the reply. :) When I check for updates using Microsoft Update it lists Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 as an update. I tried to install the update but it said that I had to insert my Office XP CD in order for the service pack to be installed. :( Come to think of it, I don't have any updates for Office XP at all. Since I don't have the CD I can't get Office XP Service Pack 3 nor any of the other security updates for Microsoft Office. Therefore the security updates need service pack 3 to be installed first.

Anyway I have also tried rebooting the machine multiple times and rebooting does not help or make the slightest difference in this situation. Would you like me to post a HijackThis log so you can see whats running on my system? Thanks again for any more suggesstions. :)

If you have a legit Retail version of Office you can probably get a replacement cd from Microsoft for about ten dollars.

FYI ...... as with Windows Updates, Office Updates are checked for validity, and updates will not be offered unless the installation is valid.

Hi Noahdfear. Thanks for the link for Office Service Pack 3. :) I was able to install the update just fine without any issues and it didn't ask me for the CD. :D After I got it installed, I installed about 20 Office XP security updates. Anyway thanks for your help. Office XP seems to be running alot smoother now than it was. So thanks again you guys. This forum is great. :D :) ;)
