I have a Mircrosoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse which is causing me problems. The left, right, and middle buttons work, but I just can not get it to move the pointer on the screen. Would this be a hardware or software problem? Also is there a way to fix this?

Run the mouse on another computer. If it works you will need to find why the notebook is having problems.

Update the USB controller drivers, which will be included with the motherboard/chipset drivers (at the notebooks website).

    Update any touchpad software.

Uninstall any software for the mouse, and if you don't need it, don't reinstall it.

Uninstall the mouse in Device Manager, it will be reinstalled automatically when you restart.

    change the battery.
No need to uninstall any software, no software is required to use it, just plug in the usb wifi and off you go. XP autodetects it & loads the drivers.
