I have a Microsoft Encarta program. A couple of months ago, I had to use my Product Recovery & Diagnostics CD [for IBM Aptiva]--since that time, I can't use my Encarta CD because during installation, the message "An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file." When this message pops up, I can click on "abort" or "retry." Clicking on "retry" brings the error message pop-up "Corrupt installation file! "

The CD has no visible scratches--I'm fairly certain that it's ok. What else can cause a "corrupt installation file?" Since using the Product Recovery CD, I've also gotten rid of some cookies--is it possible that I've erased some cookies that need to be in place for the CD to work?

TOPS--Have you shut down all other programs, especially your antivirus when you try to install? (Among other methods you can simultaneously click CONTROL+ALT+DELETE, highlight any items other than Explorer and Systray, and click EndTask. You do this for each item separately. You may have to wait a few seconds in some cases for the entry to disappear.)
If that does not work, try calling or emailing MS Encarta.
I do not think you have a cookie problem.
