Hi, I'll cut to the chase. I have 98SE on an ASUS CUSL-2 ATA100 mobo, P-3 1GHz with 256k RAM. I am playing with the idea of upping the RAM another 256mb (mobo max is 512mb).

The existing is module is a NANYA #A4303082 PC133.

I have been researching to find out what exact RAM spec will be compatible. CAS-2, Non-ECC, non-parity, 168 pin, etc. The only thing to find out now (I think) is if it is high density or low. The ASUS mobo manual doesn't say (but does mention SPD).

Is there an obvious rule that applies to determining low or high density modules or applications?

    Thanks, Larry

    Crucial

Let the Crucial memory selector answer your questions about what kind of RAM to buy. You're on your own when it comes to figuring out what you have already.

Does something bad happen if I mix a CL-2 module with a CL-3?

I guess what I am trying to say is what parameters are critical in that they be matched?

    Thx, Lar

    memory

If ya use diff mem stiks make sure the basics are the same. Both must be non parity non buffered pc133 (sometimes pc100 auto fallback) clk=2.5 is usually set in the bios. :)

    Thakns Rancher,

I haven't seen "clk' before. What is that? Do you know how critical it is that both be the CAS Latency factor (2 vs 3)?

    ram

clk=2.5 clk=2 refers to memory clock speed or same as rass & cass whick is how fast on a cpu cycle the row line is fetched & the column line is fetched
Memory is best kept the clk speed whereas the thro speed auto falls back to the slowest stick. example; pc133 falls back to pc100 when both are used at same time. The spd (serial present device) handles this and the bios handles the clk=?

    hope this helps ya:)
