   Does Windows (XP) keep a history of media player files played? Where is it?
   Also when trying to save a file in a word processor, the drop down list that appeared contained previously saved unrelated files, even after deleting history, recent, my computer etc in 'Documents and Settings'. Where are these coming from?

   On a quick read I think you will find your answer there.
   
   On point #2 this is probably 'by design' as M$ would say. Try going to IE > Tools > Internet Options > Content > Autocomplete ?
