I have a new HP a1550y PC and I want to make backup discs. The computer came with (my option) Sonic Backup MyPC 6.0.0. Since this software was preinstalled, Sonic won't provide email or other one-on-one help. Their knowledge base is, as so often happens, not quite on target - or at least that how it seems to me - so that's no help.

My question is how many discs do I need?

Alternatively, can I backup to a keychain memory?

For a full system backup you will get a rough estimate of the number of CD's/DVD's required by dividing the used space on your hard drive by 0.7 for CD's or 4.5 for DVD's based on a rough capacity of 700 Mb/CD and 4.5 Gb/DVD - this will not take into account any compression which the program may apply to the backup so the actual number of disks will be less.

I doubt a pendrive is a viable alternative for a system backup which will be several Gb, but is fine for data backups, given that the software supports backup to USB drives.

From the few machines that I've seen most of the time they will ask for 4 CD's or 1 DVD, but that was on ACER machines not too sure about HP.
