I had to reinstall and I'm not able to get online with mailwasher or firefox unless I momentarily shut down ZoneAlarm. I thought there was a location in Free Zonealarm where I can enter software it should allow.

I don't use ZA but it should be pretty close to my Sygate.

Right click on the icon and there should be a place where you can view the applications that ZA acts upon. Look for Mailwasher and Firefox. If the entry says block, You should be able to change it to Allow.

This is from the ZA Forum:

How do I open ports for a program? ZAP 3.x: In the Program listings, click on the program's name, then click on the Options button. You have the choice to allow the program access to all ports, only to specific ports, or to all ports EXCEPT specific ports. For the specific required ports to open, you should check with the software manufacturer. In 4.x you may open specific ports by using Expert Rules (see posts below for specifics).
    3) How do I get XXXX program to work? The help files cover many of the most common programs. From inside ZA, press F1, and go to the Search tab. Try searching for the program by name; if that doesn't work, try by program type (example : for MSN Messenger, you could search for CHAT).

Double click on the ZA icon in the system tray. In the window that opens click program control. Now, if you see program controls (a small sliding control and another to set the automatic internet lock) rather than the programs themselves, look in the upper right hand corner. There'll be two tabs there. Click the one that says programs. Then scroll through the list and find mailwasher and set it so it has access. If mailwasher isn't listed it may be there with a different name. If this is the case, open mailwasher and have it try to connect to the mail server. Then, in ZA, click alerts and logs and look at the newest entry in the list. It should tell you the name of the app that tried to connect. If it's listed there, go back to the programs list and find the one that's named the same and set it accordingly.

Zander & BMoore: thanks. That was just what I was looking for. Don't know if it solves my problem, but I gave several apps access that should have it.
