Might I impose on someone using Windows Vista to post the mailto: Registry Key? I would be most appreciative, and need to see the key in order to help vegaspat on the Netscape/Mozilla Forum: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=71316

I am still using Windows XP, and she is unclear about the correct location of the key.

    Thanking you in advance!

    Same as XP:

    00,65,00,73,00,25,00,5c,00,57,00,69,00,6e,00,64,00,6f,00,77,00,73,00,20,00,\
    4d,00,61,00,69,00,6c,00,5c,00,57,00,69,00,6e,00,4d,00,61,00,69,00,6c,00,2e,\
    00,65,00,78,00,65,00,22,00,20,00,2f,00,6d,00,61,00,69,00,6c,00,75,00,72,00,\

    Or (in clear text): "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" /mailurl: "%1 "

Thanks, Arie. I am no Registry whiz, so let me ask you this; if the keys would be the same for Windows Mail, then would they be the same for Thunderbird? The mailto: for XP/Thunderbird is:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto]
    @= "URL:MailTo Protocol "
     "URL Protocol "=" "
     "EditFlags "=dword:00000002
     "FriendlyTypeName "= "@ieframe.dll,-910 "
     "BrowserFlags "=dword:00000008

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\DefaultIcon]
    @= "C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe,0 "

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell]
    @=" "

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command]
    @= "\ "C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe\" -osint -compose \ "%1\" "

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\ddeexec]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\ddeexec\Application]
    @= "thunderbird "

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\ddeexec\Topic]
    @= "System "
So would it be safe to have Pat activate this key in Windows Vista?

It could be the same. I would create a restore point, then go ahead and add the registry settings you posted. If it doesn't work as expected, roll the system back to the restore point.
