I have ME. Several times a website has told me I have to download Flash 6 for the moving video. Every time I've attempted to do this, it freezes my computer. I have an old Macromedia Flash (apparently put on when I bought the computer in 2001, since that is the date in the "Properties "). What can I do to download Flash 6 w/o its freezing my computer

Is this the only site from which you cannot download? If so, you might contact Macromedia and see if they will suppy a CD for minimal or even no cost.
Did the problem occur only after you installed a new piece of hardware or a new software program?
Here is the standard fix for not being able to download
    http://www.valink.com/jeep/IE/Unable.to.Download.Files.htm
I have not seen the problem of freezing up, but you have nothing to lose by trying.
    Also you could try
    1) Repair Internet Explorer Tool. Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|click InternetExplorer Repair Tool|Wait. Reboot.
    2) Delete your Temporary Internet Explorer files.
    3) Have you visited Windows Update lately? If you are offered a Critical Update, install it and see if that changes anything.
Also, ave you tried a System Restore?
    Good luck.

Thanks again, Welshjim. Macromedia is the only site I've had this problem with. I've tried to download the Flash 6 several times in the last few months with the same result. I really don't need it and I think I'll just forget about it.

    Hi

I find it better to first uninstall flash before getting a newer versions.
did you see one this page they (now) offer an uninstall utility for it separately
    " "" " "'
    Uninstaller
    Macromedia Flash Player Uninstaller
(uninstalls all current and previous versions of Macromedia Flash Player)
    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Thanks all. I removed the old one and installed the new. The problem was that the puter appeared to be stuck, as I was unable to minimize or do anything with the website, but after about 10 minutes, it began to download. The "C" (for Comcast) at the upper right and the filled in black on the process were not moving, so I thought it was frozen, but apparently was not.

    Hi irvingr5

Did you manually remove the plug-in -- uninstall it though add-remove programs or download and run there separate Uninstaller
    ???

Rather than watching the little spinning logo in the top right corner of IE window , for activity , better to keep an eye on the status bar,, View status bar,, even then sometimes its not apparent when somethings still going on put the mouse there or in the title bar ,, see if hourglass is still there..

You browser is branded ? the spinning globe ? how about the title bar?
would you like to set it back to normal >start run type :
Better yet copy paste this :
    rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear -------- and hit enter

    I ran Macromedia's Uninstaller.

I don't know what "branded" means. The spinning globe (actually a "C" on my puter) ordinarily spins. It wasn't however, on the download of Macromedia. However, I did what you recommended and ran the rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear -------- and hit OK -- . I don't know what that did, if anything.

    "I don't know what "branded" means. "

I should have said to run it with all IE's closed, for it to have any effect :)

You mentioned comcast and the icon r/ uper corner of IE's window
, some ISPs brand IE and OE, this includes the icon and the title bar --should say Microsoft Internet Explorer rather than Brought to you by Comsoft of some such.

    Regards
    Lonny

I ran it with Windows & OE closed, but my title bar still says "provided by Comcast." Hey, I can live with that. No big deal.

Hey, now instead of the "C" I have the globe (and the Windows logo when stationary). Big deal. Still says "Provided by Comcast. "

Oops - IE does not say "Provided by Comcast." Thanks much Lonny Jones. However, OE still has those words. Any way I can eliminate it from OE?

I wish I knew of a run command that would do the same with OE.

If you are comfortable using regedit
You could search for (under window title) "Provided by Comcast" once found in the right panel right click, and choose modify and put anything there you want,, If you want directions to it within the registry wait or ask here , others will respond..
An easy way , get this free tool ,Outlook Express 5.0 Tweak'r
    [ Outlook Express 5.0 Tweak'r ]: http://accesscodes.hypermart.net/product04.html

But don't use it for anything other than the window title, as its a little old.

Have any IE's and OE's closed while using this tool :) .

    Copied from http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#debrand

How do I remove the "provided by ..." branding in the OE title bar?

This branding is a customization added by whomever provided your copy of IE/OE. If your OE is branded, your IE is probably also branded. Removing the branding requires that you edit the registry.

    1. In Regedit, navigate to this key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    \Identities
    \{GUID}
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Outlook Express
    \5.0
    2. In the right-hand pane, right-click on the value WindowTitle and then click Delete. Or click on Modify and enter the title of your choice.

Thanks all. I used the link that Lonnie provided and changed the title to just "Outlook Express." I've had the puter for almost two years and until now didn't realize that I could change the title bars to IE and OE.

Me two , it said provided by At&t even after we no longer used them for a year,, Now they say Our IE and Our OE..

I dont let any web site install any activeX(anything) , will cancel out and research first . (not even flash) ,Instead go to the site your self.
And to be carefull, not from a link provided by some web site.
