Not a virus - associated with Logitech multimedia webcam devices - do you have such a device?

    From here ....

Another bit of info for you. I don't know if this will be a problem for you or not but I'm telling you so that if it happens, you'll know what's causing it. If you ever click the start button and the menu is black with nothing in it, it's caused by the Logitech software for the camera. I have one two and it's a problem for me from time to time. Uninstalling the software fixes it. You can uninstall the software and the camera will still work. Uninstalling the software doesn't remove the drivers. If you don't want to do that, logging off windows and then back on fixes it, should it happen to you. One other side effect it has is if you use the quick launch toolbar, it'll be gone when you log back on and you have to re-enable it.

I've searched high and low for an answer to this but have never found one. There's a lot of people out there who have this problem and I know Logitech is aware of it but for some reason they never seem to bother to give us a fix (unless I've missed it). I check for updated software regularly but the version they have available for download is the same as what I have. I've had my camera for about 6 months.

On mine, this isn't a huge problem. It sometimes happens once or twice a week and then I can go for a couple weeks at a time without it happening. I've never been able to pin point just what it is that sets it off though. I've never noticed a common denominator between the times it happens. Seems to happen at random almost.

So, if one day you click your start button and the menu is black, you'll know what's causing it. I can't help you fix it at this time but at least you'll know. :)
