Having a problem with a PC that was bringing up an error regarding an lsass.exe file. Unfortunately, didn't read it properly and deleted all reference to lsass in the registry. Not a good move as the PC no longer boots properly, it gets to the user login screen, after about 30-40 minutes, but doesn't offer a user id to log in with. Have made a boot disk on another PC but that doesn't work on this PC and only boots to DOS. Are you able to assist?

lsass.exe is a legit, and important Windows file (unless it's NOT located in System32 folder).
Did you try to boot to Safe Mode? If it goes there, use System Restore.

Try a repair install with your Windows CD. It will re-install windows without hurting your data.

Thanks broni and eannatone. Tried safe mode but would not boot in. Going to reformat HDD and upgrade to Vista.
