    I lost my email.

Usual mistake, leaving too much mail in the Inbox. Now when I open my email
all I see is the original start page.

I tried to follow several of the steps that have been listed in other threads but to no avail. Deleted *.msf files, changed Inbox name, and used Mozback.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I will try to check back this evening.

    Thanks

What is the size of the Inbox? Never mind the .msf file, if you are near, or over 1GB. The Inbox is not made for storage, and, eventually, it poops out. You should, first, rename the Inbox. And, it seems that you did. Delete the Inbox.msf file, but, make sure that you do this with your program closed, or else, it wont work. Now, on reopening your program, you should see only the new mail in the Inbox, and the renamed Inbox. Had you tried compacting your Inbox

    Am I totally hosed?

    I have also renamed Inbox.

I have not heard that a 386MB Inbox would cause problems. And, deleting the .msf file does not cause any problem, either. At this point, we need to summarize. What is the present situation? Do you have an Inbox, and no renamed Inbox? The .msf file will be created anew, if properly deleted. By the way, I never use the Start Page. Have you tried to uncheck the box in you Options?

Current Page looks kinda like this when I open TB:

    Thunderbird Mail - Local Folders

    Accounts (Blue Bar)

(Gear) View Settings for this account

    (Globe) Create a new account

    Advanced Features ( Blue Bar)

    (Magnifying Glass) Search messages

    (Funnel) Manage message filters

When I use Windows Explorer I am able to find the Inbox and it has approx 360 MB in it.
There are also the usual other folders.

I did rename the Inbox to InboxOld.

    InboxOld has 396000 KB
    Sent has 43833 KB
    Drafts has 359 KB

    The rest have 0 KB.

    Thanks

Do you see anything, anywhere? To be more precise, you appear to have selected Global Settings, which sends everything to Local Folders. Is anything there?
You should have an Inbox file, even if empty. Where are the files which you listed. They may be in an account on the hard drive, but they might be in Local Folders, if you allowed the Global Settings to exist.

I located the files listed by following the path specified in the settings page. The path is C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\k4v8yx4r.default\Mail\Local Folders.

I also copied this file to another hard drive and used Mozback to back it up immediately after I lost the email. Can I go to Global settings and fix the problem.

    Thanks

P.S. I have the "Use my Global LDAP server preferences for this account." option checked. I believe that is the "default" setting.

It may be called default if it is given to you, but, I, invariably, uncheck that box.
My wife and I have ten different accounts. Both of us want to keep our ducks in ther respective rows. We like to look at our individual accounts, rather than wade through a mountain of mail, to find what we want.

I had the Inbox pane closed to one side.

Is there a good tutorial on setting up TB that I could study.

Perhaps I could save everyone a lot of trouble if I learned how to use it better.

    Thanks

Hard to tell. There are many tutorials around, but, often they do not provide all the needed information for someone who has little experience. You can try this one . I hope that is useful to you.
By the way a close Inbox is meaningless. The entire program must be closed.
