I have Windows XP for home and Netscape 8.0 is my browser. When I click on the netscape mail icon on the desktop, it says that I'm running Netscape 7.2.

This morning, when I logged onto e-mail, I got a mail wizard saying I should set up a new e-mail account. All of my email folders were gone. After speaking both with our isp provider (optonline) and with Netscape, I set up a new e-mail account. However, I'm still trying to recover my old emails (without success).

According to the tech support person at optonline, Netscape 8 doesn't support pop servers, so I have to run an earlier version of Netscape. When I go into Explorer, I found (in Programs & Settings) what says is Netscape 6.0, but when you click on it, version 7.2 opens. The problem is that according to the tech support person, it's really not version 7.2 because when you go into preferences, there is no mail account entry (just something called Mail & Newsgroups). Version 7.2 should have, according to him, a mail account entry. Also, my old address book and bookmarks are still there. Just no emails.

Does anyone know how to recover my emails and folders and inbox? The advice I got from the tech support person was to somehow find and run version 7.2.

There are lots of emails that I can't afford to lose. I read an earlier posting about a similar problem where the response was to navigate in Explorer to my mail account folder (and then copy), but I can't find that folder (I'm told because Netscape 8 doesn't have pops).

    Thanks.

I just came from another newsgroup where a fellow had assumed that NS8 had to have mail, but it is a browser only. I know that you want to recover your mail, but I will tell you this first. AOL, which own Netscape, has plagued by their own subscribers to come out with a programb which is more like IE, and can work like IE, if desired. IE has no mail, so some people got their wishes, and there has been a lot of confusion.
I will not try to guess everything, but if you let NS8 install itself, it will not do anything to the existing 7.2. You can and should have both, at least for the mail. I don't know why you had the problem at the time that it happened, but your old 7.2 profile is on the hard drive, and the new mail account is in the same location, except for having a -1 added to the account name.
You will have to copy the old Inbox, in the old account, and paste it into the new account. Try these directions .
And, if you have in your Prefs|Advanced|Software installations, uncheck the update notifications box.

    Welcome to the Forum, megster!

    Kim,

This is the Profiles folder location for WindowsXP, and where you should find your missing Mail:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp.net

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

You should see your Mail accounts listed. If not and you have done a "find" for the Mail account with no results, then it could be the mail is gone. Did you have a crash, or an interruption in service, power outage, etc.?

    Ramona :D
