I have checked the Device Manager and Ethernet card has Yellow Exclamation Mark. Also something called Wan Miniport. I am able to connect from laptop both wired and wireless. Changed the Ethernet to another slot and was able to install software but nothing else.

How can you tell if the card is kaput for sure? I don't have another desktop to try the card in.

Are there any other things I can try? TIA!

Hi if it's a yellow exclamation mark then try re-installing the driver, get windows to search for it.
Sometimes "I don't know why" the OS would just lose it! I had the problem with a "Ralink" card and had to re-install the drivers again more than once until the update came through!

I'm no expert but could you for the others disclose what type of card you are using?

Thanks for your reply, ianamal. The drivers were installed when I changed the card to another slot, but I did not get any connection.

The card is a NetGear GA311 and has only three years of use.

Seen stuff fail in a lot shorter period of time. Nothing last forever. Just uninstall it and see if Windows will pick it back up.

I have internet, but I can't explain what happened. I installed the card in the new slot and let Windows install the drivers as suggested here by Mr.Bill and ianamal. I then saw Yellow exclamation mark and checked old notes about this. i went to command prompt and typed command to reset winsock. Rebooted and got connected. However, I don't understand why the AT&T WAN Miniport is disconnected nor what that is. Everything is good in device manager.

Thanks so much for your help!

That is your onboard connection and you are using a different connection now. (The new card you installed)

The "AT&T WAN Miniport" is for PPPoE
