I have 3 PCs. Two of them are running XP Home Ed, and the other is running XP Pro. I haven't had the problem I am about to mention on the two running XP Home. On the one running XP Pro, when my wife tries to logoff, it seems to take much longer that it should (at least much longer than it does to logoff of the PCs running XP Home). If I try to click on a desktop icon, like IE, for instance, I get a message that it can't execute because the login is shutting down. Eventually I get a light blue screen similar to the "Welcome Screen ", but without the user accounts (It says Windows XP, and has the MS windows "flag ", but nothing else). At that point the PC is hung. I can't even reboot it via the power switch. I have to unplug it, and plug it back in.

I should mention that this does not happen when we merely do a "switch user ". It only happens when trying to log completely off.

Is this a known problem? Any fixes for it?

    Thanks.

Interesting. Sounds worth a try. A question, though. Suppose the user account which is suspected of being corrupted is called UserX. And, lets say I'd like, ultimately, to keep UserX. Could I create a UserY, follow the procedure to copy the UserX profile to UserY, then totally delete UserX, then recreate UserX, and copy all the profile stuff back to the "new" UserX?
