I am thinking of doing an upgrade and wanted to backup my address books. Where are they located? Thanks.

They are located in the Profile, and have different names like abook.mab or impab.mab, if importated, and you may have more than one. To me, it is a terrible way to proceed, when you have Tool|Export| as a .ldif file each address book, and save it. The address books should be named like you have them, i.e. Family, Friends, Computer stuff (i.e. Family.ldif, etc.) so that that you know what you are importing, when needed. Export and Import are done from the Address Book.

    ackerberg,

I would suggest backing up your entire Profiles folder. Now you have everything, including the Address Book, in a safe place. The Address Book, Bookmarks, passwords, cookies, personal dictionary, etc., are all located in the *.slt (salted) folder.

    Windows 2000/Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

    Windows 95/98/ME
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

If you run Windows XP then follow the below guideline in order to find your hidden files:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

All that being said, an uninstall of an outdated browser, and install of an updated Release has no effect on the Profile, but it is an excellent preventive measure to back up the Profile first.
