    Hi
    I have two systems on my computer: 98 and XP.

    There are 2 directories on my C: drive WinXP and Windows.

    I would like to get rid of the 98 OS. How can I do it? Which directory is for the XP OS. (I know the WinXP directory name is giving a clear direction, but I won't like to delete the "Windows" directory and then find it has some part of the XP OS.

    Thanks
    Silviu

    The windows 98 folder should not have any part of XP in it. To check to be sure, rename the Windows folder to something else. If you have a problem renaming, go into 98 and Restart in Dos Mode, and do this command.
    ren c:\windows c:\notwin
    The only problem I foresee is a program you have installed puts files into the Windows folder instead of looking up the %windir% variable and using the correct folder for the OS that is running. This is the main reason it is recommended to use Windows as the folder to install into.
    To get the computer to boot straight into XP without the prompt as boot up, edit the C:\Boot.Ini file. Before you open it with Notepad, right click on it and uncheck the Read Only box, if you don't you will not be able to save any changes to it.
    You want to following line to look like this.
    timeout=0
    This is the timer you get with that menu, when it is zero, and the default OS is XP, it will go straight into XP.
