Do I need a seperate hard drive that is a single volume to load XP prior to entering BIOS and making a RAID 0 array from 2 discs? I am setting up a new computer and want to use the 10K sata drives in RAID 0. I did not partition them. Thank you for your help with this. p.s. I do not have a floppy drive on the computer. I am able to get into bios and set up a RAID 0 but them windows does ont see the drive. do I F6 boot with the motherboard cd?

No. You can set up the RAID in BIOS, but you'll need to press F6 when Windows setup starts (setup will prompt for this). You then need a floppy drive with the RAID driver(s).

Most motherboard CD's have an option to boot from them (so no need for booting 'into' an OS), and have an option to 'create RAID driver Floppy disk').

So you'll not be able to use the method I described above.

You'll have to have RAID disabled, install Windows XP, install the RAID drivers from the CD, then re-enable RAID.

Now, I have no idea this will work (will XP install the RAID drivers when you have RAID disabled?), maybe someone else can comment.

I know that in Windows Vista the setup will read drivers directly from the CD... not with Windows XP though.

The RAID setup should be detailed at the end of the motherboard manual. If it only discusses using a floppy disk method you should try going to the RAID Controller manufacturer's website (it will most likely be Promise or Hi-Point). They might detail a method of doing it by CD or have an installer that runs from CD.

Getting or borrowing a floppy drive may be the only other course of action.
