Resolved Lightscribe drive not found

After upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium I have lost the ability to use my Lightscribe enabled Pioneer DVR-213NP drive for printing Lightscribe discs. I have downloaded amd installed the latest Lightscribe software and the Lightscribe diagnostic utility from the Lightscribe website. Included below is the report rendered when the diagnostic utility the short version states "no lightscrie drive detected. It functioned fine under Windows XP Pro SP3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

Is your Lightscribe enabled Pioneer DVR-213NP plugged into a SATA cable ?

A lot of the manufatures - so I'm told - have not made the drivers for the SATA with
Windows 7 being so new. You may need to call the manufature and see if they have a
driver for Windows 7 when connected to a SATA cable.

 

Thank you for your input - I had thought of doing that but was reluctant to have to listen to an automated response system which never seems to let a person get to a person until patience has run out. As a last resort I will do that.

 

Update on your response to my post - Pioneer says it is a software problem and the drive should work fine as is. They have nothing new for it.

 

One thing you may need to do is make sure - Even though it shows in your print out - is to make sure the service is started.

Go to:

Control panel
Administrative tools
Services
double-click on Lightscribe Service, and if it says disabled, there's your problem! Change it to automatic, then click "start service" in the left hand pane in services, and you don't even have to reboot!

You may also want to try http://www.surething.com/ST/ which is compatable with Windows 7

 

Thanks so much and I followed your advice and checked although I had done that before but with the reinstalls etc I did it again and yes it is started and on automatic. I downloaded and installed the trial version of Sure Thing and that did not help either. The only thing I have not done is uninstall the drive and reinstall it. I am going to try that today. I also have an IDE non Lightscribe DVD installed which I am going to disable to see if that is affecting it. Don't think so but at this point I am willing to try most anything. Again thanks for the help.

 

You mention that you have installed the latest LightScribe software.

On this web site:http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00001r_e.html there is a firmware update for your Pioneer DVR-213NP.
Its under the DVR-113KG series Firmware listing.

Update the firmware and see if this takes care of the problem.

You may need to reinstall the LightScribe software after you do the firmware update.

 

sp3851 - Thank you very much for all of your help. At this point I have done everything you and I have talked about either prior to your suggestion or after. Some I did twice just to make sure. The last thing was to remove the drive totally from the system and then reinstall it and restart windows to let it be discovered and installed again. I removed it, shut down the system and restarted it, shut down reinstalled the drive and restarted it. No luck. Incidentally I uninstalled all of the Lightscribe stuff also while the drive was out and then reinstalled it after I restarted the system the last time. The firmware was up to date with the latest. Have you thought about going back to XP Pro SP3 ?

I know there has been alot of hype on Windows 7 - but that does not mean that
all the companies have written all the drivers that are needed to make all the stuff work with Windows 7.


One thing I do once a new operating system comes out - I wait 2 or 3 maybe 4 years until all the bugs (most of them) have been worked out.
You would be suprised how much BETA testing a program goes through and then
each problem has to be addressed and code written and tested again.

Windows 7 may be the new kid on the block, I'll stick with XP Pro for quite a while longer.

 

I kind of agree with you and usually I follow the same policy that you do. The only reason I did what I did is due to the purchase of a laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I liked the 64bit thing a lot so decided to upgrade both the desktop to 7 and 64 bit and since I have an "in" with Microsoft and the cost was acceptable I decided to bite the bullet and just do it. I will continue to struggle along working out the problems and keeping an old geezer's mind occupied solving mysteries and eventually it will all come out in the wash. I'll stick your contact info in a spot and keep you updated on any interesting results. Thanks and I will leave the post here for a bit longer and see what else might pop up. Incidentally I was born in Cass county Indiana and spent all of my childhood days in that part of the world until joining the Navy for a career in 1952.

out with updated sata drivers to replace the ones that came with Windows 7 so
download and installed and it worked. Thanks so much. This forum is awesome.
