Hey intelligent WindowsBBS mods and users, I have a slight issue with going out to buy a new power adapter for my laptop (so I can have one for mobile and one for home).

The issue: Toshiba's website is saying two different things for my laptop and so are ebay's items. The main thing is the 1 amp difference between the adapters.

Current Adapter (that my laptop currently has)
    Part #: PA3469U-1ACA
    Output: 15 Volts, 5 Amps

Toshiba's website says I need this adapter for my laptop (after looking it up on their website):
    Part #: PA2521U-3ACA
    Output: 15Volts 6 Amps
    URL: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?seg=HHO&poid=341588

What is unique about Toshiba's thing is that under their compatibility list, they say M115-S3xxx which includes my laptop's model number. However also in that same URL under "Note" it does not list my current power adapter as a direct replacement for.
Also what is unique about Toshiba's website, is I cannot find my current power adapter listed anywhere under their parts (PA3469U-1ACA)

Also while looking on eBay the price difference between PA3469U-1ACA (my current adapter) and PA2521U-3ACA (Toshiba's model) is about $25.00-$30.00

The final question: Does 1 amp of difference between the two different power adapters matter or not or could I end up frying my laptop if I had 1 too many amps?

    My Laptop's Model Number is:
    Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094
Also on the bottom of my laptop is it labeled for 15V 5.0 Amps DC directly printed next to the model #

    Thanks a bunch guys
    -Eric

The reason I'm asking about this is because Toshiba's support center is closed on weekends and it's hard to get them on the phone (two different timezones).

    laptop power supply

My experience with laptops has been with older - less power demanding and probably much higher component quakity laptops.
I am still not convinced about the newer laptops.
Prices have come down but most are meant to be throwaway non repair machines - ( the value priced modells)
These laptops were meant to function under a wide variety of conditions.
Customers paid lot for these computers and expected reliability.
    Two points here:

    1) if you measure the power coming out of most ac adapters with a voltmeter the power output varies - seldom are they anything close to the stated claim

    2) You can get by with a lot of variation between laptop power adapters.
Things like scanners and all in one printers you have to be really close but not with laptops.

Just do not go over the stated voltage by a good amount and you usually cannot do too much damage

i.e. do not plug a 30 volt adapter into a 15 volt stamped laptop

I am not sure of your core duo model how finicky the power requirements are in your specific case

So are you saying that 1 amp higher won't make a difference? If that's the case then a PA3283U-3ACA should work... it's output is 15V 6amps.

The voltage output is important, but the amperage figure given is the maximum which can be drawn and still maintain the stated voltage. 1 amp more is not going to make any difference.
