I have a Gateway Solo 2500 laptop, PII, 128MB, 10GB HDD. I powered her up the other day and nothing happened. I initially thought she was running empty on batteries, so I plugged her in, same result. I did detect a "burning" smell, more like rubber.

I have not been able to get any information on how to open the chassis to take a look inside. Anyone point me in the right direction? he Gateway site has no info, and this laptop is not under warranty.

If this is not the correct forum to post this question, then I apologize. Thanks.

Most lower shells are a combination of screws and snap fittings, but if you don't know what you are doing, take this to a qualified technician before you make matters worse. Laptops are a bit more difficult than desktops and I'll give you a quick example. Although most laptop HDD's can handle several G's in drop tests, you can kill them in less than 3 seconds by squeezing top to bottom with your thumb and index finger.

    ;)
