Laptop - dark lcd screen

    Have a Presario AMD K6 laptop. ( Compaq Presario 1685)
    screen is dark.
    win 98.
    screen ok on external monitor.
    any ideas of what to check ?

    On my Dell fn-arrow up and fn- arrow down toggles the backlight on the display. There should be a way to do that on your laptop.
    Mine is always a little darker when I'm using the battery only.

    As maggie says, plug it into the mains, and look for a function key. My Toshiba is a combination of the Fn key and toggling between two of the F keys with a "Sun" picture on them. You may also have a power management applet where you can increase the brightness depending on whether it is powered by batteries or mains.
