    A grand salute to all the gallant crew aboard this forum,

    I've a Kingston UR Drive. The question is this - can I format this and will it be usable still as just a storage USB or Flash drive. This is the question. I'll appreciate any advice given, even if it's wrong. Thanks!!! :-}

    Why ruin a good drive. They are so cheap now that I would just buy another plain stick.

    true - but I bought this stick to save files on - I'm wondering what is the point of the software on it?

    And again - if I format it, will it be usable as such, that is, a storage device per se?

    I never had any problems removing the preloaded software on thumb drives. U3 provides an uninstalller and the data traveler software should be able to be removed as well. Afterwards, just reformat the drive. I don't like the software that some companies preload on thumb drives. I always remove it.

    uninstaller here

    Thanks guys for the help. I took the adventure, and did what Tony does - formatted the thing. I thought if the thing burst into a ball of flame, well, so be it. But up to this point, it's remaining quite cool (within normal operating parameters), so all appears to be ok.

    Thanks again for the pointers!!! :-}
