I have mastered the art of using Ctrl-C, -X, -V, -P, and -F for their respective functions. :)

Working in MS Word today I was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut for Save. I do save and exit many documents throughout the day. None of the documents I have saved, including an MS knowledge base article, mentioned this. Is there any such keyboard shortcut?

apod, I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier. Ctrl-s does the trick--at least in MS Word, which is the program I'm in 95% of the time when I'm actually doing work on the computer. It sounds pretty reasonable, but believe it or not it wasn't on quite a few of teh shortcuts pages I visited, including the one linked to above.

Retiredlearner, thanks anyways. I had that bookmarked already and it didn't have Save on it, but it had quite a few others. But as apod said/suggested, Ctrl-s does it.

Thanks to both of you for replying.

    Hi, Paul.

I'm glad you got that sorted out quickly.

In MS Word 2003, if you click your mouse on a menu item at the top of Word to open the pull-down menu, the keyboard shortcuts are listed next to the drop-down menu items that have shortcuts.

For example, the Ctrl+S shortcut is displayed in Word's "File" pull-down menu. (You might have to expand the drop-down menu by mousing over the "Expand" button at the bottom of the drop-down list to see the "Save" menu item and associated shortcut displayed.)

You might want to experiment with the Ctrl+H shortcut for "Replace ". (It is displayed in the Edit pull-down menu.) Ctrl+H is very handy for changing a text string that appears throughout the document.

Look around at other menu items in Word for other shortcuts you may want to use/experiment with.

Thanks, Mailman. You know, I specifically looked in MS Word 2003 for the shortcuts to be listed next to the command, and when I did check, I saw nothing. Not too sure why I missed that--I have Word set to always expand the menus. Must have been a brain fade. Thanks for the Ctrl-H for replace. Often when I want to find a word, it is to replace it. Now how can I remember that one....'H' for 'rHeplace' or 'reHabilitate'? :D

Man back in the days of Word Perfect 4.2, I was a keyboard demon. That was when all the computer labs had those huge keyboard shortcut charts on the wall, so you could look up and see Alt, Ctrl, Shift, and what not, on the left column, with F1-F12 along the top. I had a ton of those down pat-- until I started using the mouse with Word Perfect 6... and the resulting dissipation of knowledge is what I live with today. :(

I could use one of those charts. The way they marked the keys I need a magnifying glass to see them or wear my bifocals, which are terrible for viewing the monitor.

Whiskeyman, I just drilled through four pages of results in Google, and for the life of me I couldn't find what I was talking about. I found plenty of lists of common keyboard shortcuts, but not an actual chart like I saw before. This chart had every combination of Shift/Alt/Ctrl with the function keys (F1-12) that was possible. It must have been 2 by 6 feet, up on the wall, but I "m sure somebody has a compressed image that could be printed and placed by a computer.

OK. Some of those pages look familiar. If and when I find the chart I'm looking for, I'll post it here at this thread.
