    Hi,

I have XP Home SP2 running on a Compaq Presario.

If I press the Caps Lock key when editing a file in say Word or even Notepad then the keyboard response grinds almost to a halt. There is a long delay before the computer responds to the key I just pressed and often the PC speaker will just beep.

I have checked the Processes and Performance tabs in Task Manager but nothing exciting seems to be happening, usage at about 2%.

If I close the editor and toggle-off the Caps Lock then the keyboard returns to it's normal speed.

I keep my copy of Norton Anti-Virus and Internet Security up-to-date and regularly scan for viruses and do not seem to have any.

This is really doing my head in, so if anyone has any ideas, then I would be really grateful.

    Thanks
    Mike

Maybe your KB driver is corrupted?

Go to Device Manager and remove it and cold boot. Fresh one is installed.

Bmoore1129 has to be right, if it was the keyboard or the cord, then it would be the same with or without caps lock on.

did your KB come with a CD? if it did, there are drivers on it.. try reinstalling it.

    Good luck,
    Jason

    Thanks for you suggestions.

For my comfort and enjoyment, the PC did not come with any CDs at all so I am I bit worried that if I go ahead and remove the k/b driver that I will not be able to use it again.

I am I right or will it be ok?

    Thanks
    Mike

You may find the driver you need here or do a search on the net; there are similar sites.

Are you using any "accessibility" features? If you use them try disabling them temporarily. (icon in control panel)

    Sorted

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I think I have solved it now...

I swapped the keyboard and the problem has gone away :)

As my PC is still in warranty I just have to wait for Compaq to send me another k/b.
