Dumped Zone Alarm in favour of Kerio, but have run into a problem.

Everything works fine except Terrapin ftp which I use for uploading web sites. The only way this will work is with Kerio disabled - not wise.

Problem is this - from the filter log:

1,[28/Jul/2003 21:54:52] Rule 'Packet to unopened port received': Blocked: In TCP, ftp.btinternet.com [194.73.73.119:20]->localhost:5001, Owner: no owner

I think I need to allow these packets from ftp.btinternet.com to allow the file transfer to take place, but I can find no way of configuring Kerio to pass these packets and there was no request from Kerio to permit or deny.

I had no such problemswith Zone Alarm.

Any ideas from the 'Kerio advocates' ??

Will Zone Alarm and Kerio co-exist - only one active at a time of course, at least I could switch firewalls when using Terrapin.

In the rule for Terrapin change the TCP to both directions.
Put the slider in Kerio in the middle until all your apps are set up, when it is at the top, unknown is automatically denied.
ZoneAlarm allowed all ports and protocols whenever an application was allow to connect, then a question about Server Rights, if any.
I noticed the last line in the log shows that Terrapin did not own the port at the time, anyway hope this helps.

Thanks Mark - changing the rule for Terrapin to allow TCP in both directions did not help.

I have Kerio in 'learning' mode with the slider in the middle position and it has set up all apps so far satisfactorily except this one.

I've tried temporarily changing a few of the other TCP rules to in/out without effect - even created an 'ftp' rule to allow TCP in/out whatever - any port, any address, etc to no avail.

I am totally out of my depth when it comes to protocols, TCP, UDP XYZ .... and the rules page might just as well be written in Chinese!

Looks like it's back to ZoneAlarm and suffer the overheads.

What you have to do is go into the firewall Admin (Firewall Configuration), and on the Miscellaneous tab check Is Running on Internet Gateway. That works for me.

Thanks, Arie - works for me too ! But I think I will only use that option for ftp - seems to allow some other stuff in to.
