A friend of mine has got this virus and i need to know if it might be able to remove control panel from the system? I cannot find control panel on his system anywhere. Could someone tell me how I might be able to find control panel on windows xp?
Or how I might go about restoring control panel? I have tried system restore and got no results.
    Thank you!

    Hi, dlt1. :)

Assuming your friend does not have other malware issues (which I think should be investigated first and resolved before tackling Windows issues)...

If you are successful with mickzer's suggestion for removing the "JS PSYME" stuff, then you might wish to proceed with adding the Control Panel to your friend's start menu.

Carefully read the beginning of that page. Then it looks like the .reg file available from line 224 (1st column) "Show Control Panel on the Start Menu" on that page might be your solution.

If that doesn't work, then line 256 "Restore the Control Panel" (also a .reg file) might do the trick.

CAUTION/DISCLAIMER: Both of those .reg files will modify the Registry. Therefore, I recommend you back up the Registry and know how to access/use that back-up in case the need arises.

I also suggest you create a System Restore point before making any changes (regardless of what method you use).

    Control Panel Is Gone!

I have already tried all that and Control Panel was just GONE, NOT THERE. Anyway, I fixed it i just went ahead and used the Recovery disk on his computer and it put it to the state as when he first got the computer. I don't know what the heck happened to Control Panel but it was not there? LOL
Thank you all for your suggestions and help!
