Java Virtual Machine!

    Why when going on certain sites, am i having to download Java Virtual Machine? It's a small download, but still a pain. Is there a way to have this "virtual machine" reside on my computer so I don't have to download it 3 times a day? I am using Windows 2000 and IE 6.
