JAVA plug-in installation failure

This is a laptop with Win XP pro installed-no SP1 or 2. In trying to install Java, I download the installer, but about 1/5th of the way through the installation process, I get:" J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 Installation Progress" which states: " Error 1311. Source file not found.C:\Documents and Settings\Vic\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\C92ZSHQF\ja150000[1].cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." Retry/Cancel.
I tried this on two different occasions, and get the same result.

P.S. Any reason why you do not have WinXP SP2? You already cannot use Windows Updates since you do not have even SP1. Your version of windows is becoming outdated.
