    Greetings,

I have installed Win 2000 along side Win 98 to try it out. Some of the games I play have a few stuttering problems which have been traced to the video and sound cards sharing the same IRQ. I have been told to re-install Win 2000 and select F6 at the SCSI/RAID/IDE panel and this will allow me to select "Standard PC" instead of ACPI which will give me control of the IRQ assignments. Is there a way to do this without re-installing.

If I have to re-install, how do I "delete" the Windows 2000 directories as specified in the "Windows98 to Windows 2000 upgrade "? Both 98 and 2000 reside on the same drive ,no partition.

    Thanks

    Jeff

Can't help on a fix that doesn't require a remove/reinstall of 2K. I will make the comment that you should have the operating systems installed to different partitions so I think you need to do it anyway.

All the recommendations I've read from Microsoft say to not ever put multiple operating systems into the same partition.

I suspect that even if you manage to get the ACPI to go away you will continue to have various other issues.

As to getting rid of the folder that contains the 2K files, booting from a floppy and doing a deltree of the folder will certainly make it go away. And if you get rid of boot.ini from the root folder you shouldn't get the 2K startup menu of options. Probably also a good idea to remove files from c:\ that start with nt*.*.

I'm not positive that the above info about getting rid of 2K will completely do the trick for you. It may but you probably ought to wait on someone else to chime in here. Otherwise if you do it and have problems, a reinstall of 98 to the original c:\windows folder will probably put everything back to proper working order so you can partition and put 2K back on.
