ok im on a win2k prof machine, inside my works LAN. I have an internal ip address (192.168.0.xxx) assigned to me by our FreeBSD gateway. I go into the dhcp config and change my ip address to an external (64.212.xxx.xxx) so that I should be outside the firewall.

NOW! Here's the problem... when i do ipconfig /release & /renew, I get the exact same ip address! I know it doesnt have to do with the gateway, because on other computers I can get outside the firewall just fine, its just my computer. Whats the problem here? Why is win2k remembering my ip?

Go in to the DHCP config and change my ip address

Not sure exactly what you mean by that. NIC settings (and if so, exactly what are you changing) or into the DHCP server settings?

And you mention two IP addresses then say I get the exact same ip address. Which address?

If you are pointing to a specific DHCP server and are within the lease period for the IP you had, I would expect you to get the original address given to you again. That's normal behavior for DHCP.
