I'm thinking of upgrading my Broadband account to a faster connection, but one of its conditions is a 2GB monthly download limit. Unfortunately, I have no idea how much I download each month as I don't know where to look to find out. The "Check My Useage" shows that I haven't used my connection at all. Perhaps that only works with DUN.
Is there a simple way of finding out internet useage?

If use IE, go to Internet Options/General Tab/Temporary Int Files/Settings button and set temp internet files limit to something like 1000 MB. Then use comp a would normally for a few days. Keep track of downloaded programs too. After a few days to a week, check the amount of files in c\docs & settings\username\local setings\temp int files and the amount of additional downloads, total them up and compute the average daily amount, multiply by 30 and it will be a monthly average. Probably nowhere near 2 GB unless you d/l a lot of music files or movies.

    Thanks Tony,
That does seem like a good plan. I'll try it. The word seems to be that 2Gb is well beyond what most people download in which case it does seem worth doubling the download speed for no extra cost. Thanks for the advice.

Emsa Bandwidth Monitor is a small and simple bandwidth monitor that lets you monitor your internet connection speed, total traffic and average download/upload speed. The program runs in the system tray, supports transparency and also provides additional information for each of your network interfaces.

The Bandwidth Monitor seems to work fine, and I'm double-checking the amount of downloaded traffic by monitoring the growth of the Temporary Internet Files folder. So far I appear to have downloaded a little over 20Mb in 9 days' normal internet use, so it looks as if 2Gb a month is way higher than what I'd exect to download.
One question: I use two browsers, IE6 and Firefox. Does the traffic downloaded from both browsers end up or get recorded in the same Temporary Internet Files folder?

Firefox has it's own cache, so should check it as well.

    Thanks for that information.
I can see how to change the cache settings in Firefox, but cannot find just how much has been downloaded into it anywhre. Is it in a file on the hard drive somewhere?

Thanks for that. It acts as a backup check to the very comprehensive-looking Interenet Monitor...

An intriguing extension to my query has just occured to me.
I have a Speedtouch wireless router. Mine is the main computer and my son's is the satellite one. Will the NetMeter on my PC measure his downloads too or does he need to install it to measure his download traffic separately? I suspect it's the latter.
