    Guys and gals,

I need your help! I have a client running XP Home/SP2, Verizon fibre optic broadband and wireless router. The PC is a Dell laptop. Over time, and the amount of time can vary, ( 1 to 4 hrs?), the internet becomes garbled. By this I mean unintelligible characters regardless of the web site being visited. I checked and cleaned all spyware and see no evidence of a virus. Cleared the cache and removed everything running in the background by either unchecking them on msconfig or stopping them from running automatically by runnindg services.msc. My next step is to use the PC direct connected to my cable modem (eliminate the wireless and Verizon FIOS.) Maybe the wireless is causing it??? Anyway, any input would be appreciated. I have never experienced this type of problem:eek: .

    Thanks,
    Larry

Hi, Larry. Do you recall any software and/or hardware changes you made to your system just prior to your "garbage" characters problem?

Do you recall what spyware you cleaned and what applications you used for scanning and cleaning? That might be helpful information.

It may be premature to post a HijackThis log but it seems leftovers from a spyware infection might still be present.

Beyond that, you seem to have a good idea to eliminate your Verizon/router variables. I suggest you have a software firewall active (preferably one that filters both incoming and outgoing traffic) before connecting directly to the cable modem. Zone Alarm is one firewall that performs such a task.
