Hi, some help please this is weird.

I rebooting my CPU as it was dead on memory, and on the reboot a 'new' network connection appeared.

To be precise an 'Internet Gateway' for my network is running through my machine. I have two icons now in the bottom right handside

    Lan and Internet Gateway

But when i click on the My Network Places, it only shows the LAN connection..

Ive disabled the connection in the icon then close it, and its gone from the system trey, but each time i reboot its reappears etc..

Its an XP machine, 2 week install

Ive scanned the system, no bugs. and im running on a Linkseys Router with Kerio Firewall

lol, you have xp and you have no bugs, isn't than an oxymoron?

    anyways...

What exactly is it you want? you want to stop being a gateway (as you have a router and you dont need to be)? Open the properties for the lan connection and disable internet connection sharing or start->run->services.msc and disable internet connection sharing through there.

I don't understand why you'd want to be an internet gateway if you are using a router though.

You say "an 'Internet Gateway' for my network is running through my machine. "

This would be normal behavior if you had your PC set up as an ICS (internet connection sharing) host and a client was using it for internet access.

But with your router/switch, you certainly wouldn't need it and shouldn't have it.

Otherwise I'm at a loss about the source of your extra icon. If you right-click it and check the properties, what does it tell you?

I've never seen such an icon even with ICS enabled (with XP), check to make sure it's not a 3rd party program.
the startup folder on ur start menu is a good start. might want to check in the registry at
    hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/current_version/run for anything unusual

    hey guys

ok, stryker i checked the services.smc and internet sharing is off. so i couldnt disable it :/

This is what they look like:

    www.killersmurfs.net/1a.JPG

The one on the left is the new connection type thats poped up.
The one on the right is the default LAN connection

Also ive noticed the internet has been slower, browsing is more like 56k speeds, but i can download and upload at my caps.

And notice the icons on the bottom right.

    Im confused

Ok leading off the trail a bit, with the slow internet since this happened, i phoned up my ISP and they ran some tests on my cable modem, everything is fine all packets were recieved etc.. etc.. but he ran a test from Modem to PC and only 1 or 2 packets were getting thru, with the router connected...

Disconnected the router hooked the modem straight to the PC and Bam all fine, fast internet surfing no packet loss..

Could the router of done something, cos this internet gateway has also appeard on my other XP machine.

    Maybe i should phone linksys..
