I'm new to this site and somewhat of a beginner to computers,But I'm not totally iliterate.I have been trying to help a friend figure out why her E-mail screen keeps locking up.She is running Windows 98,Outlook Express, and has Peoplepc for her server. She has no problem getting on line. When she pulls up her E-mail screen ,clicks on tools, and clicks on send mail or receive mail, her screen locks up.She can still use the internet. If she closes her dial-up screen ,one of these 2 error messages pops up:MSIMN caused a general protection fault in module KRNL 386.EXE at 0003:00002750 OR MSIMN has caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel 32.DLL at 017 f:bff 7 b9a6. I have been in contact with the server many times .They have gone over all the connections and settings and still ,she can't send or receive messages. Can anyone please help us ?Sorry this is so long.

    Welcome Paulette

It sounds like she has a corrupt file in Outlook Express. I would recommend going to Control Panel and uninstalling OE. Then reinstall it and set up the mail account as per her ISP provided settings.

GPF are usually due to some program issuing an illegal (immoral or fattening) command that Windows can't execute. OE was developed in close coordination with Windows (understatement) and rarely has such problems unless corrupt.

    Good luck

Edit If she has previously used the OE program and has some messages she wants to save she can export them prior to uninstalling. Just look on the toolbar and you'll quickly see how. You can also use the Windows Explorer and migrate to the mailbox location and copy the file to another folder for later importing. If you arrive at that point and need further info, post back.

    Thanks

Thanks Zephyr, I'll try it-I'm just hoping she hasn't got a virus. From everything I have been able to dig up about invalid page faults,There is a possibility of a virus ,isn't there? Will try your idea tomorrow-thanks again!:)

    Does she have McAfee installed?
Is it set to Scan email?
If so, try unselecting this option.

    Paulette:
Why does your friend use Tools to send/receive email?? Why not just click on send/receive on the email tool bar?! Faster and fewer stokes!!
I do not know an answer to the problem but could her method be a part of it? Might be worth a try.
Just an observation I noticed in your first post.

    How's this going........

    Any update?

Here's some Msimn errors and fixes for the "Archival" of this post, just in case someone peeks at this link for a possible fix:
    http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/ermsimn.htm#ERRKERNEL32.DLL

What is kernel32 error messages and why they may be so hard to track down unless this is a known, frequently seen, specific error:

If running win98 and older versions, perhaps you've been biten by the bug using system file checker:
