I built my friend a computer and he is having and Internet Connection problem. He has a cable modem and the service comes in and out. The cable company swears its not the service but instead the computer. I have tried everything I could thing of (uninstalling the card, built in btw) flushing the dns, releasing and renewing the ip address and none of it has worked. The modem shows the CABLE and PC lights to be solid, but still no transfer of info occurs b/w the two. The computer sees all of the network info (IP, dns, dhcp...) but it wont let him get out. Maybe there is a setting I am overlooking? Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated as always.

Have you checked the cabling? Swap out the cable from the PC to the modem for a known working cable.

There might be some help on this Kelly's Korner page.

Well after a few more calls to the cable company and Microsoft, we found out that it is indeed the cable compaines fault. Their system saw the modem flapping in and out of the network. They have to come and run a direct line and add a booster. Thanks for the response miz.
