I am getting intermittent sound dropouts when using Windows Media Player and Creative Media SOurce. Sound drops for up to 30 seconds at a time. AM using XP Home with a RealTex AC97 inbuilt sound card

    ANyone have any clues?

Check the speakers and the wires connecting to the computer, by substitution of known good equipment if possible.

Try uninstalling the RealTek AC97 Audio through Device Manager and rebooting.

Check your mobo manufacturer's web site for the latest AC97 drivers.
