If you have a cdrom in your laptop - go into bios and set the first boot device to cdrom. Have the XP CD in the drive and bootup the computer. XP will boot and give you partitioning and format options.

What XP Cd are you trying to use?

Are you trying to boot to an "Upgrade" CD?

The upgrade, if I remember correctly is a Win32 app and must be run from within windows 98 or higher.

Also it sounds like you may be battling some hardware issues also. - Be sure CD is clean...

I can find the way to go into bios..! it may sound weird, but normally i just press delete or f-someting??? bu that don't work here...

i've got two win xp versions, a danish home edition and a uk professionel!!

The 6 bootdisk from microsoft didn't work on my laptop!!
But, I actually downloaded another bootdisk for win xp..
I used the bootdisk and it booted, it said that i should go to the cd-drive and the map i386 and then type winnt.exe and i did.. it worked (i thought)

it starts copying files and when it's done it says:
"The MS-DOS based portion of Setup is complete. Setup will now restart your computer. After your computer restarts Windows XP Setup will continue. If there is a floppy disk in drive A:, remove it now. Press ENTER to restart your computer and continue Windows XP Setup." i removed the floppy and then i pressed ENTER... It restarted and it continued the setup, it said Setup is now starting windows.. but then an error came up before windows was started.. it said that a problem was detected and windows had been shut down to prevent damage to my computer. and when i restart it just turns up again..!

    help?? please...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    and i know it's not an upgrade cd :) ;) :p

For what its worth... Disk I/O error on a floppy usually means the disk is U/S. (stuffed!) Sometimes a reformat of the floppy will fix it. But for the purpose of making boot floppies I suggest you turf it and use a new disk.
