Can some provide me with an overview of the steps needed to reformat a PC that has windows ME and want to put windows 2000 on. I don't want to install 2000 over it b/c there are major problems with ME, can't get into control panel, windows explorer, search and i don't know if just installing over would fix this b/c there are other errors as well.

    Thanks:p

    Hi artuck,

If you plan to 'format', do you have any of the original disks from your computer's builder? Some send them - some don't!!

My Gateway came with disks for everything that was in it :). My son's HP came with nothing! :( Not even a 'thank you' note.

If you have anything that comes close to a "Restoration" disk, a 'format' should be relatively simple followed by a clean install of your new Windows operating system. If you do decide to 'reformat' your computer be sure to backup anything and everything you want to keep because all is (or can be) lost at the touch of a button. See signature below.

I 'format' mine every year or so. It's kinda like - "Why does anyone climb a mountain?" or "Why does a dog. . . ?" Well, you get the drift. It's because I can.

    HTH :) :D :)

You made an excellent choice when deciding not to put ANYTHING overtop of a badly behaving ME.
And I have hard drives that have not seen a Format in years.

The one that did get formated before upgrading to 98SE was the one that had ME on it. ( for only there days at that )
