Is the floppy drive set as first boot device in the Bios?

not able to start computer with boot disk

What the computer is telling you is that it cannot find startup instructions on the disk it is trying to boot from

First check the boot order or your computer.
Go into your bios- it may tell you directions on startup
    - " to enter bios" press ....
usually del or F1 (IBM) , F10 Compaq

    here is a full list : http://computernotions.com/html/bios_setup.html

since you have a boot floppy make sure that to boot from the floppy is on the list - easiest is first on the order , you can change it back later
if it is already on the first startup position and you are still having problems there are two possibilites - that is either the floppy is unattached or does not work or the boot floppy is not proper . You can check it on another computer if possible.

If your boot disk is damaged you can create another one with windows 98 and your install disk or go here : http://bootdisk.com/

lastly if you find that there is a password on your bios which prevents you from entering then take out the watch type clock battery on your motherboard for a few minutes . However afterwords you will have to reset your clock.

Remember if you have problems or are concerned with playing around with your bios ( someone may have warned or scared you) you can always set the settings back to factory defaults and you should be ok for the most part .
