I think I want to migrate to from NS 7.1 to TBird 0.9 to get more stability in my e-mail. However, if there is a good reason not to migrate, please tell me.

Assuming I go with TBird, I want to copy my existing mail and address book from NS 7.1. The TBird import only shows NS 4.x. I've heard that I only need to copy the files, but I don't know where to find the NS files nor do I know where to put them in TBird.

    Welcome to the Forum, CFPman!

    CFPman,

When you install Thunderbird for the first time it affords you the option to migrate Profile data files from the location of your choice, including Netscape. But it is only on the first install. Obviously you didn't do the migration, so in order to copy the Address Book and Mail from Netscape 7.1 to Thunderbird 0.9 do this:

Close Netscape 7.1, Quick Launch, and Thunderbird 0.9
    Open Windows Explorer

    Address Book
Copy the abook.mab file from the Netscape 7.1 *.slt folder, and paste it into the Thunderbird *.slt folder. When asked to overwrite the existing file, answer YES.
    OR
Export the 7.1 Address Book as an LDIF file, and then Import it to the Thunderbird Address Book.
For your Profiles folder location see this page: http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html

    Mail
In Netscape 7.1 copy Mail files from the Mail Account folder (pop.yourisp.net) without the MSF extension
(Inbox, Drafts, Templates, Sent, and any SBD folders which are subfolders.)
Delete the MSF files in the SBD folders

Paste the files without the MSF extension into the Thunderbird Mail Account folder, overwriting the existing files.

If you have existing Mail in the Thunderbird Mail Account, Then you will need to rename the Mail files in Netscape 7.1 before pasting them into the Thunderbird Mail Account Folder.

Rename the Netscape 7.1 Inbox file to 71Inbox, or OLDInbox, or whatever you wish. Then copy and paste into the Thunderbird Mail Account folder. Do this for each Mail files in 7.1. This will ensure that you don't overwrite existing messages in any of the Mail folders in Thunderbird.

If you have further questions let us know.

    Ramona

P.S. You will love Thunderbird, and soon will want to give Firefox a try... ;)

    Thanks, Ramona

Your solutions worked just fine. I have been using Firefox for awhile and I do like it.
