Recently, I had to move to an imap server in stead of pop server.
I am using netscape 7.2. I have now the problem that synchronization of my email folders on the imap-server with my own hard disk is only partially successful. Mostly, I have to synchronize quite a number of times before all my messages are located on my own hard disk. That occurs both with the general "download/synchronize" option under "offline" as under the properties of each folder "offline" and then "download now ". Before I synchronize I give the command "compact folders ".
Moreover, when I go offline and giving the command "download now ", it seems that Netscape 7.2 downloads again and again the same messages.
Is this a Netscape 7.2 problem or is there some setting to improve this situation ?

    Ed,

You can set up your IMAP Mail in Netscape 7.2 Mail & Newsgroups, thus removing the necessity to syncronize the IMAP server with your HDD. When you make a backup copy of your Profiles folder, then the messages will be saved.

To set up the IMAP Mail Account:

    Open the Mail component
Click on: Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings

Click on: Add Account | Email | Enter your name and the email address of the IMAP Acct.
In the next Window ensure that you enable the radio button for IMAP

This may take care of your Offline problems.

    Ramona,

Thanks for your reaction. You suggested me to set up an IMAP account.
That was what I had done and with that account I encountered the problems described in my first post.
It looks that Netscape downloads just a few email messages and by constantly asking to download a folder, finally all messages are on my hard disks. So, it takes some time. There might be some kind of bug w.r.t. the index system of messages not yet dowloaded.

    Ed,

Is this the new AOL/Netscape IMAP Mail that you're using? Compacting your folders frequently is great, and you might also try deleting the MSF file in the IMAP Mail Account folder and see if that might help.

Netscape has so many bugs, this may very well be one of them...

Also take a look at this KB Article as it gives several suggestions. Even tho it addresses Thunderbird problems, it is also intended for SeaMonkey and Mozilla. As Netscape is Mozilla with some added features, it will also apply to NS 7.2.
