I am using IE 6.0. When I click on image toolbar and hit the email icon, I am sent to Netscape Email. I want to go to my Outlook Express 6.0 email, which is my default Email.

How do i get my image toolbar to send image to OE instead of Netscape? Thank You.

First make sure OE is indeed being recognized/designated as your default email:
From within IE's menubar select Tools>internet options>programs tab> and on the line email does it say "Outlook Express "?

goddez1. Thank you for your quick reply. Yes Outlook Express is listed as my default email. I also reset web and search pages to IE 6 as default.

I cannot understand how image toolbar chose netscape 6.01 as its default email; nor how to change it.

What happens when you use the Mail icon on the Standard toolbar?

This may need a Registry check for proper hkey values but I need to know if this is a general email problem or just specific to the image toolbar. In the meantime just for grins and giigles let's make sure that win98 realizes OE is the default mail client.
close IE and/or OE, click Start| Run and enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Reboot. Then open OE and click Tools| Options, and at the bottom of the General tab, verify that OE is set as the default. If it is, the "Make Default" button will be grayed out. If not, click the button and try again.

goddez1, I tried what you said and when I rebooted and went to tools/options/programs,the box for default explorer was not greyed out and it was checked for IE to see whether it was default browser. In your last post to me you said see box under general tab, but I think you meant program tab.

If I click on mail in regular tool bar, OE comes right up.

    Now What?

    Hi jackie,

I meant for you to open OE [outlook express] and check:
open OutlookExpress and click Tools| Options, and at the bottom of the General tab, verify that OE is set as the default. If it is, the "Make Default" button will be grayed out. If not, click the button and try again. Additional it must also be set as the default Mail and news server.

Yes goddez1, you did say OE. Sorry I misread you.

I now went to OE/options/gen.tab and default mail and news are both greyed out, but I still bring up Netscape when I use Image toolbar/mail.

This is a puzzler. Four components make this work:
    IE must be default browser
Oe messaging must be installed and setup
OE must be default mail program
    OE must be default mapi

You appear to have all set correctly. Image Toolbar is a built in IE shell function using My Pictures Photo Support. My Pictures is a feature that allows users to save, print, and e-mail images found in web pages, without having to right-click the image. The My Pictures user interface is a small set of common buttons that appear in a hovering toolbar when a user mouses over an image.

The "Send this image in an e-mail button" opens a new e-mail message with the default e-mail client and includes the picture as an attachment to the message.

I don't understand why the mail icon opens OE as it is suppose to but the image toolbar is opening Netscape. Do all the other buttons function as they are suppose to, ie: save/print/open My Pictures? Do you have a right click function, when on an image that the Image toolbar pops up on, that includes the options "Send email "?

I'll have to think on this...., maybe do a search for known bugs/problems. Gonna' have to get back to you.

Hmmm, wonder an if IE self repair would take care of this??? Are you familiar with this procedure?

goddez1 I tried IE repair but it did not fix problem . All other image toolbar functions are ok. But, I noticed that when I would right click on an image and send it to email, it too would open in Netscape. Go figure!

I do thank you very much for the time you have spent trying to figure this out. If you have anything else for me to try, I'll be ready and eager.

I was going to try and supply the hkeys, that I am aware of that are involved in this function, but on second thought it may be wiser for you to export these hkeys, open the resulting *reg files in notepad.exe and copyNpaste nfo here for an exploratory looksee, only if you wish to of course.

    The keys are:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail [and the subkeys]

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto [and subkeys]

There are others but these are the two main ones. Perhaps something obvious can be caught or seen in these values.

    ======================
If any other member is aware of a problem, bug, or the files and call functions that this procedure would depend on please help by adding your own thoughts here. I feel like we're chasing our tails, going around in circles redundantly checking the same things in different manners.

    =====================
If it were me I'd uninstall Netscape, since IE is my browser of choice, if for no other reason than out of curiosity, to see if problem corrects its self. Netscape can always be re-installed, but this is easy for me to say as I haven't used or even opened Netscape since a few of versions back. Just a thought.....

goddez1 I think I will go ahead and remove Netscape from my computer and see what then happens with my image toolbar. I will then reinstall Netscape as i like to have a back-up browser.

Thank you again for your help and time.
