I recently upgraded to IE8 but had problems with slow reponse rates, so have decided to go back to IE7

Unfortunately when I went to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel it didn't present the option to remove IE8, so without thinking, deleted the files thru File Manager then ran CCleaner to clear the registry.

Everything seemed OK until I downloded IE7 from Microsoft and installed it. All seemded to go OK until the time to open. It put an icon in my Quick Lauch but none on my desktop. When I try to open IE using either the icon or the iexplore.exe options, absolutely nothing happens.

Any ideas how to get it working?

As an added extra, sometimes I've found that Windows Installer won't install some programs, but it does others. Also have 2 copies of the add remove option in my control panel.

Cheers in advance for an assistance to be offered.

Are you sure? - It is listed under Windows Explorer 8
Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows and you have probably removed some key registry files which are not replaced by installing IE7 which could be considered to be an upgrade to IE 6 and not a standalone app as the entry in Add/Remove Programs might imply.
IMO - First option is a System Restore to a date prior to 'uninstalling' IE 8

Second option is a Repair install of Windows - requires an XP CD at the same Service Pack level as the installed OS so you may need to create a slipstreamed bootable CD, i.e. if your OS is SP3 and your install CD is SP2 you need to slipstream SP3 into that disk ....

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

If you have a Recovery CD you are out of luck here.

I have original XP disk - pre SP2 and my PC is SP3. No recovery disk. Are you saying that I won't be able to recover IE?

    2nd solution worked. Thanks

Thought I'd let you know that I re-installed IE8 and it is now working. MS certainly don't make it easy to take a step back. Any ideas on how to get IE7 back on??

The inter-relationship between SP3 and IE 7 is complex - some background .....

IE 7 was not included in SP3 much to most people's surprise, but the code for IE 6 was changed in SP3 leading to complications with roll back ......

IE and Windows XP Service Pack 3

My understanding of your situation is this ....

Following your installation of XP SP3 your IE version should have been 6 which you have upgraded to 8. In theory uninstalling IE 8 should roll you back to IE 6 - note that in Add/Remove Programs IE 8 is listed as Windows Internet Explorer 8 - a lot of folk miss that :)

IE 8 is more secure than IE 7, but if you have problems with slow loading see this thread - IE 8 is not happy with a huge list of Domains, etc .....

IE 7 can be downloaded from here .....
